OWATER was founded on the principal that a hydrating sports drink should taste great and truly be good for you. We are not alone in our thinking. In 2009, the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) issued a plea to beverage manufacturers to focus on the development of no and low sugar beverages. Highly sweetened beverages, they said, are a major contributor to the epidemic rise of obesity and type-2 diabetes in this country. The HSPH proposed that manufacturers create a new class of beverages that have no more than 1 gram of sugar per ounce, and are free of non-caloric sweeteners. OWATER, which fits these criteria, was included on their list of recommended beverages.
