OWATER was founded on the principal that a hydrating sports drink should taste great and truly be good for you. We believe that the high sugar and calorie content of many conventional sports beverages runs counter to the fitness goals of most health conscious people, and in the extreme is a cause of obesity, heart disease and other related ailments. We also believe that calorie-free drinks made with artificial sweeteners are simply too sweet to be tasty; and worse, they train the palette to expect a sky-high level of sweetness.

We are not alone in our thinking. In 2009, the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) issued a plea to beverage manufacturers to focus on the development of no and low sugar beverages. Highly sweetened beverages, they said, are a major contributor to the epidemic rise of obesity and type-2 diabetes in this country. The HSPH proposed that manufacturers create a new class of beverages that have no more than 1 gram of sugar per ounce, and are free of non-caloric sweeteners. OWATER, which fits these criteria, was included on their list of recommended beverages.

For athletes, the two most important components of hydration during exercise are water intake and electrolyte replacement. Sweating depletes the body of important substances like potassium, calcium, sodium and magnesium - electrolytes that are critical to proper cellular function of your muscles and nervous system. The best way to maintain electrolyte balance is to replenish with an electrolyte-enhanced beverage.

OWATER makes a variety of healthy electrolyte drinks that offer athletes the ingredients they want and none of the junk they don't.
