When our own Mike Z. first told us about his friend Darcy Africa, we had to ask for clarification: "She runs 100-mile races? Is that even possible?" In fact, Darcy is among the country's top female competitors in the growing sport of ultra-running. She finished the Grand Slam of ultra-running (a series of four 100-mile endurance runs in Squaw Valley, Calif., Vermont, Leadville and Utah's Wasatch Range) with the fastest times of any other racer.
