I am nominating my father, Greg, to be an Owater athlete. My dad is a very modest person and would never nominate himself for an award, but I believe he deserves to be recognized.
At 50 years-old, he finished his first Ironman triathlon only seven months after major back surgery and will compete in his fourth Ironman triathlon in late August. My two younger brothers and I have had the privilege of training and racing with my dad over the years, something we have not taken for granted.
He has always valued a healthy lifestyle and is an inspiration to our family and everyone who knows him. My dad's work ethic and perseverance remind me that, I too, can continue to challenge myself and remain active as I age. I am incredibly proud of my father, not only for his athletic accomplishments, but for who he is as a person.
